A mountain break in Haute Savoie

Summer is a perfect time in Le Grand Bornand, treat yourself to a stay in our hotel La Croix St Maurice. Anyone who likes a walk will enjoy the 150kms of waymarked trails which wind through Alpine meadows, forests and small hamlets. Take a walk around the Roc des Arces with your family, keeping a watchful eye for marmottes. For enthusiastic walkers there’s the Lac de Peyre and Lac de Lessy, two of the most beautiful high altitude lakes of Haute Savoie. From there be sure to take in the magnificent views of Mont Blanc and the Aravis chain. Should you prefer a bike ride, attack the climb to Col de la Colombière, or take your cross country bike down the dedicated mountain trails. In summer Le Grand Bornand has 8 different routes, at 3 levels of difficulty, accessible from chair lifts. Even more experiences await ; the Aravis area boasts 200kms of mountain bike trails, and within 4km, at La Clusaz there’s “north shore” and “ four cross “. In the summer , Le Grand Bornand is a special place to be with family and friends to experience the great outdoors.

Outdoor activities for adults...

Le Grand Bornand is also just the place for rock climbing and via ferrata. Thrills and excitement are on offer when you climb the rock walls of the Aravis, one lesson, or maybe several, with one of the many qualified guides in the village. Those more experienced, and looking for a more extreme challenge, can attempt the big routes at the Pointe de Chombas or the Paré de Joux. Your stay at Le Grand Bornand also presents the opportunity to try paragliding whilst admiring the majesty of Aravis chain.
Additionally, Le Grand Bornand offers a 9 hole golf course, and an outdoor swimming pool; just the ticket after a stroll through the village streets.

... and for kids

Close by, in our sister village Le Chinaillon, take a family trip and the kids will have fun, with the zip wire, the dome, and other games. In the evening, a lamp-lit guided tour of the Le Grand Bornand’s heritage house will inform, or reacquaint, you with daily life in a mountain village of the 19th century. It’s the perfect way to absorb the history of this area. August brings a memorable event : Le Grand Bornand ends its summer season with the children’s street festival, Au Bonheur des Mômes. For almost 30 years this street festival has delighted children, large and small, with its many events, all aimed at youngsters. (exhibitions, workshops, theatre shows, puppets, mime and dance)
